Research guide based on linked documentation; not a hands-on test.
The VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH is a front-and-rear dash-camera option for a driver who wants to plan both viewpoints and choose suitable memory and parking power. The selected variant is the standard two-channel package. It is not the Tele version, waterproof-rear version or a three-channel cabin bundle.
VIOFO’s product documentation provides the specifications below. HotBoxCams has not conducted plate-reading, night-driving or parking-duration tests, so we do not translate the resolution claims into guaranteed evidence quality.
| Front recording | 3840 × 2160 at 30 fps |
|---|---|
| Rear recording | 2560 × 1440 at 30 fps |
| Storage | microSD support up to 512 GB |
| Power reserve | Supercapacitor rather than a recording battery |
| Connectivity | 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi and built-in GPS |
Two viewpoints require one complete installation
Work out the rear camera position and cable route before ordering. A rear window’s angle, a moving hatch and the vehicle’s trim can affect the installation. Confirm the supplied cable length and any supported extension rather than assuming every vehicle can use the same arrangement.
The buying advantage of this configuration is a documented front-and-rear recording combination. Its practical value still depends on clean glass, useful positioning and readable saved files. Inspect both channels; a good front preview can hide an obstructed or incorrectly aimed rear camera.
Memory choice is more specific than “endurance”
A supported card is an essential addition. VIOFO’s current FAQ recommends its own cards or SanDisk MAX Endurance and specifically says not High Endurance. Treat that distinction as meaningful instead of choosing any card with an endurance label.
Choose capacity around the combined recording workload and your desired retention. The maximum supported capacity is a ceiling, not a promise that every card below it works. Format the selected card as instructed, record in the intended mode and verify playback after a normal restart.
Parking is a power decision
If parked recording matters, choose a supported power arrangement and verify its suitability for the vehicle. VIOFO lists HK4 as an optional accessory for this camera. Correct installation and settings determine how parking functions operate; a supercapacitor does not power the camera indefinitely after the vehicle supply ends.
Ask an installer to demonstrate normal driving operation, the transition into the chosen parking mode and the relevant battery-protection behavior. Cable routing must respect the vehicle’s controls and airbag areas. The cost of doing that properly belongs in the purchase decision.
Before ordering and after installation
Confirm the exact two-channel variant and included accessories, then budget the card and any parking equipment separately. Check how you will retrieve files using the supported phone or computer workflow. A clip that remains inaccessible on a card is of limited practical use.
After installation, save a short daylight and night sample from both cameras, verify the timestamp and export an event to another device. This model is a reasonable shortlist candidate when its documented recording configuration fits your needs and you are willing to complete that setup, rather than treating the box as the finished system.
