Research guide based on linked documentation; not a hands-on test.
The FLIR Edge Pro is a wireless thermal camera for use with supported iOS and Android devices. It is a candidate when a surface-temperature pattern is the observation you need to document. The verified model is 11002-0201; older listings may call it FLIR ONE Edge Pro.
The facts below come from FLIR’s current product documentation. HotBoxCams has not conducted thermal accuracy or diagnostic tests. Our assessment focuses on choosing the right measurement method and understanding what the resulting image can establish.
| Native thermal resolution | 160 × 120 |
|---|---|
| Processed output | 480 × 360 super resolution |
| Device connection | Wireless connection to supported iOS/Android devices |
| Thermal frame rate | 8.7 Hz |
| Focus | Fixed, from 30 cm |
Define a thermal question first
Start by identifying the surface and pattern you want to investigate. Thermal information can help document a difference worth examining, but it does not independently identify the cause. A visually striking image is not proof of moisture, a hidden defect or a specific material behind a wall.
Record relevant conditions such as recent heating, cooling or sunlight and the type of surface. Reflections and surroundings can affect interpretation. If a measurement will drive a consequential action, review the instrument’s stated conditions and obtain a suitable independent check rather than treating a single image as conclusive.
Keep native detection and processing separate
The 480 × 360 output is processed; the native thermal detector is 160 × 120. Those are different specifications. More pixels in an exported image do not establish a detector with the same native resolution or guarantee that every small target is resolved at your intended distance.
Consider the size of the area you need to distinguish and the working position available. The documented focus starts at 30 cm. If the project depends on a small detail, verify the suitability of the actual instrument and setup before buying around an output-resolution headline.
Check the phone workflow in advance
Wireless connection is useful only when the phone and application are supported and can complete the task. Verify current operating-system and app requirements for the exact device you plan to use. Do not infer that every recent iPhone or Android phone is compatible.
Plan charging and rehearse capture, saving and export. Inspect the exported file on a second device and keep enough context to identify the location. A close thermal view without a wider reference or notes can become difficult for another person to understand.
Where it fits among inspection tools
Choose this type of camera when surface thermal information is relevant. A visible-light borescope serves a different purpose by showing an accessible space through a physical route. Some investigations may need both, but neither should be purchased as a universal substitute for the other.
Before ordering, match the model number, supported mobile device and required application features. Keep the original files and record meaningful settings or display adjustments. The Edge Pro fits a buyer who wants contextual thermal observations and is prepared to interpret them carefully, with a clear separation between the measured pattern and any explanation that still needs verification.
